Important
Math Information:
While many students do know their multiplication facts through 12, many do not, or need to review. This
is something we will address all year long. Ms. Barker will be working with students who have never really
learned their facts, as she has done much work on a program to learn them. We are making flash cards,
and ALL students, until they can prove that they know all of these facts consistently, will have 10 minutes of multiplication
fact homework 5 nights a week. This will be formatted in their agendas, similar to their nightly
reading log. Students will take timed fact tests each Friday, at which time their needs will be evaluated.
Please make it a habit to work on these facts with your child!

Planners &
Agendas in 6th Grade
Students will be provided with an agenda (planner) to be used as a tool for organization,
parent – teacher – student communication, and as a log for required reading homework. Students
will record homework, goals and objectives, and will take the agenda home each night. Students will present
their agenda to their teacher each morning. As a parent, you will be able to check assignments, write notes
to the teacher, and review the nightly reading log. This agenda will be helpful to all of us, and it is
chock-full of resources for students to use. Each Monday, students may earn a reward if the agenda is returned
and the reading log is completed and signed by a parent. If these get lost, students will be expected to
pay for another one at $5.00.

NOTICE
TO PARENTS
Each Monday morning your child’s agenda will be checked for a parent
signature and completed reading homework. Students with completed agendas and assignments will be given
a guessing slip to reinforce student responsibility.
Every morning, assignments that are due need to be placed in the in-box on the desk before the tardy bell.
Agendas need to be opened and placed on student’s desk.
If a student forgets the agenda at home, he/she will be provided with an emergency agenda to be filled out and brought
home. Students then will transfer the information into their regular agenda. Parents
will need to sign the front sheet of the emergency agenda, which needs to be turned in the following day.

Friday Folders...

Friday Folders
will contain a Friday Letter concerning the week past and upcoming week, completed work, notices, book orders, and other types
of communication.
This folder is attached to the back of the agenda.
Please make it a habit to view this work, discuss the Friday Letter with your child, and any assignments or notes written
in the agenda.

Portfolios This year we will be having student-led parent-teacher conferences. To facilitate
these conferences, each student will be creating a portfolio to showcase their development across the subject areas.
One piece of work will be selected weekly for their portfolio. Students will write a short note
highlighting why each piece was chosen. These portfolios will be shared at parent-teacher-student conferences
and will be sent home at the end of the year. This year we will be having student-led parent-teacher conferences.
