Mrs. Luff's Book Review Information

Book Review Ideas:

  • Book review in a bag: decorate the outside of a paper bag with a scene or something you remember from the book.  Choose 6-10 items to place in the bag that will represent important parts of the book you read.  Write an explanation for each of the items you have chosen.
  • Write a diary that one of the story’s main characters might have kept before, during or after the books events.  Remember that the characters thoughts and feelings are very important in a diary.

  • Imagine you are the author of the book you have just read.  Suddenly the book becomes a best seller.  Write a letter to a movie producer trying to get that person interested in making your book into a movie.  Explain why the story, characters, conflicts etc. would make a good film.  Suggest a filming location and the actors to play the carious roles.  You must use proper letter format.  This may not be done with books that have been made into movies already.
  • After reading a historical fiction story, make an illustrated timeline showing events of the story and draw a map showing the locations where the story took place.
  • Create a newspaper for your book.  Summarize the plot in one article; cover the weather in another, do a feature story on one of the more interesting characters in another.  Include an editorial and a collection of ads that would be pertinent to the story.
  • Design a book jacket for the book you have read.  I strongly suggest you look at a book jacket before you attempt this activity.
  • Write a FULL (physical, emotional, relational) description of three of the characters from the book.  Draw a portrait to accompany each description.
  • Construct a diorama (3-dimensional scene which includes models of people, buildings, plants and animals) of one of the main events of the book.  Include a written description of the scene.
  • Prepare a Reading Rainbow review of the book.  You must give a description of the story and tell the audience if you would recommend it to them.  If you select this review, you must let me know ahead of time and get your review videotaped prior to the due date so it may be presented with the others.
  • Create a poster: Provide a well-written summary, and pictures that are relevant to the story.  This should be similar to a movie advertisement poster; the audience should want to read the book because of what they have seen so far.
