Work is expected to be returned on the due date. If work is not turned in on the day it is due,
it may be turned in the following day for up to 75%. After that, there will no points awarded.
Students have the opportunity to turn in “A” and “B” work once and that is on the day it is
due. For all assignments other than projects, students will be expected to grade their own late work if
they have it ready after I have graded the rest of the class’s assignments. Students will become
familiar with where they can find all of the materials they need. There are a few regular homework assignments students are expected to complete.
I will generally send home a math assignment to help reinforce concepts. When we are working on
projects, there is often work to be done at home to meet the deadline. For the most part, students shouldn’t
have any more than an hour of homework (including reading time) on a given night. Students have book reviews
every four weeks and this is to be done entirely at home. I encourage the students to spend a week getting
it finished, therefore spreading the work out over several days. Please ask your child daily about their
homework and check their planners.
I
believe it is beneficial for students to have a positive reinforcement program in place. Students who turn
in all of their work for the quarter will be invited to join me for breakfast which I provide. Students who meet the goal
will receive an invitation several days prior which will include the details! Just remember, all work must
be turned in! The fourth, fifth and sixth grades will have a reward party each month to honor the students
who turned in all of their work for the month.
The other incentive program I use is the Snack Shack. I keep a
supply of snacks in the classroom. Students earn Snack Shack Bucks which they can spend on snacks during
snack time each day. They earn the bucks by being the first student ready to begin the day or ready to
dismiss, going out of their way to help another, getting 100% on a test and many other reasons.
I keep only healthy snacks on hand.
Attendance Regular attendance is essential to the learning process.
You cannot expect to succeed if you do not participate in the daily activity of the class. While
students can make up some work missed due to absence, there is no way to recapture or reproduce classroom activities.
According to district policy, a student who misses more than 9 days in any one semester may be required to meet with
the attendance committee. Students who do no attend school 90% or more during the school year will have
their progress and promotion status reviewed by an attendance committee. If your student will be absent, please call the office as soon
as possible to notify the administration. If you know beforehand that your student will be absent, please
send a note to school for us, so that we may try to prepare the work to do prior to the absence, or for the student to take
home to complete.
Tardies Students are expected to be in their assigned seat and ready to begin work when the final bell
rings. It is disruptive to the classroom and learning environment to have interruptions from students who
come late when class has begun. We are very strict when it comes to being on time, and will not let students
slide into class unnoticed. Three tardies will count as one absence, and these could add up quickly.
Their tardies will be accounted for, so PLEASE, as a parent, get your child to school on time.
